____Mary Dineen____

(505) 455-3275

I have been painting water reflections for years, yet I
have only recently realized that this has been my
artistic direction—exploring the water’s surface and
beneath to bring to light what is found in the fertile
void. In truth, I find that the art itself determines the
direction of my art. There is something about being
at water’s edge that allows me to hold a vision of two
realities at the same time—water and land. It’s a
precarious place where the two realities merge.  The
nature of pastel allows me to work in layers. I get lost
during this layering process and the painting takes over
and dictates what I do.  I get stuck only when I think
I’m in complete control. For the, this is the constant
lesson of my art.
