Photographic Artist  Santa Fe, New Mexico

    Biography

Joyce Erickson has been an active artist for the last twenty-two years.
She attended college back east in CT. and received her B.A. from
Central CT. State University and is currently pursuing an Art Therapy
degree from Southwestern College in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Her main
medium she focuses on is photography. She photographs women in a
portrait setting but with a fine art flair. She also likes to make
contradiction statements with the photography as well. She shoots in black
and white, and prints most of her own work. She loves to be in the
darkroom and will spend hours in there to achieve the print she wants.
She also mastered the fine art of hand coloring which adds another
dimension to her black and white prints.      The other medium Joyce uses
is acrylic paint when painting her clouds. She started painting these skies
in "95" and hasn't stopped. She finds she gets lost in the painting and lets
it speak to her instead of trying to control the outcome. She finds that when
painting the cloud series, it becomes a spiritual process for her.      Joyce
Erickson considers herself a photographic artist mostly and continues to
pursue the field with much excitement. She attends workshops all over the
United States and continues to show her work. Creativity is a passion for
her and one that she will continue to nurture one day at a time. She does
art because she loves it and doesn't want to get caught up in the selling
of it. When a piece is sold it gives her great pleasure to know that someone
is treasuring the work she created and it also makes her realize the gift she
has been given in life.
