Back there in New York, back there in the 80s The Lower East Side, The East Village, Alphabet City was all covered in paint. It was a mindfuck fusion of Homeboy tags, swirling Urban Graffiti, East Village art, attempts at gallery success and Third World murals, all of which fused the daily lifestyles of the multitudes of people who lived there.
While most of the efforts were screaming LOOK AT ME! there was an inadvertent side effect. Over time, the fusion became more and more surreal, even from its abstract roots. There was only so much real estate, so much space, and personal _expression was always being challenged, but people had to live and endure in that vastly overlapping landscape.
Over time, a completed masterpiece would be nearly, but not completely buried, and only hints of the original painting were remaining, peeking through the wall like quieted voices of the past.
By the time that time had elapsed, the end result was still an ongoing mesh of the various influences, the various voices who had screamed out to be heard, and a new art form had emerged.
