STRANGER DANGER PAGE

I was abducted at age 11, the perpetrator used trickery to get me to go
with him, and though I realized I was in extreme danger I didn't realize
until adulthood just how fortunate I was to have survived the ordeal. As a
survivor of sexual abuse at age 5, I was able to maintain my cool, and he
let me go home, he was never caught.

So many children are abducted and molested by perpetrators every year,
it is very sad, not all survive. Please keep in mind that all perpetrators are
very different and pose different risks with different circumstances. I am
but hoping to empower children with additional tools should they ever need
to know what they can do in the situation involving a stranger abduction.
Parents talking about the following circumstances with your children can help
them to better be prepared emotionally and mentally. Children likewise
talking about possible problems and solutions with your parents and friends
can arm you, like a soldier who prepares to go to war.

  1. In a hostage situation avoid at all costs from looking directly at a perpetrator,
as this may be your only negotiating tool in being set free.

  2. Negotiate
Ask the perpetrator non threatening friendly questions about himself can help
him to see you as a person, instead of as an object. Look for ways to gain his trust.
And talking to him about things you might have in common like sports, movies, books, etc.
TELL HIM PLEASE DON'T HURT ME, I WOULD LIKE TO GO HOME,
examine what his reaction is, did he become more agitated because you pleaded?
Did he show concern for your welfare? Use your gut instinct.

  3. A perpetrator that wants a child to be a willing participant in the sexual act
may appear nice and kind, and May or May not have the potential to commit murder. The more afraid he is that the child would report him, the more potential he has to commit murder.
For a victim to survive, it's crucial to not look at his face and to convince perpetrator that the experience was not bad, but that he/she would like to go home.

  4. Mean perpetrators that use deadly force and violence are the most dangerous,
and are more likely to commit murder, if he starts hurting and hitting one
real badly and one cannot fight back or get away.
-PRETEND YOUR DEAD, OR YOU HEAR NOISES (LIKE THE POLICE HIDING CLOSE BY)
PLAY A MIND GAME: START MOANING IN A WEIRD WAY BY DOING THIS YOU MAY
BE ABLE TO CONVINCE HIM THAT YOU TOO ARE STRANGE AND ENJOY VIOLENCE,
AND HE MAY SPARE YOUR LIFE.

  5. How can one try to get perpetrator to not want to do strange things?
ONLY IF HE ACKNOWLEDGES YOU AS A PERSON HE MIGHT BE RESPONSIVE TO
YOUR NEEDS, ASK HIM IN A HUMBLE WAY THAT YOU DO NOT WANT TO DO THAT
OR THAT YOU FEEL SICK, FAINT OR HAVE AN UPSET STOMACH, A KIND PERPETRATOR
WILL BE CONCERNED ABOUT YOUR WELL BEING.

  6. If you end up in a perpetrators car
DON'T PANIC, DON'T BE AFRAID OF YELLING, A GUN OR A KNIFE!
FIGHT! DISTRACT CREATE AN ACCIDENT SCENE:
PULL ON THE STEERING WHEEL, OR CLIMB ON TOP
OF HIM WHILE HE IS DRIVING AND POKE HIS EYES OUT OR IF YOUR ON THE
FLOOR BOARD TURN THE CAR IGNITION OFF AND PULL OUT THE KEYS AND
THROW THEM OUT THE WINDOW OR TO THE BACK SEAT, AND GET OUT OF
THE CAR AND RUN TOWARDS SAFETY.
FIGHT! SCREAM FIRE! SCOOP EYES OUT, BITE, KICK, ATTACK FACE, JAB PEN IN EYE,
JAB PEN IN EAR, JAB PEN UP NOSE, THROW DIRT, ROCKS OR ANY OTHER OBJECTS
    AT PERPETRATOR'S FACE, THEN RUN!

  1. If you end up in the trunk of a perpetrators car
DON'T PANIC, USE YOUR BETTER JUDGMENT, HERE ARE SOME IDEAS:
-FEEL AROUND FOR A TRUCK RELEASE THAT WILL
EITHER BE A BUTTON OR A HANDLE CLOSE TO WHERE THE TRUNK OPENS.
SOME CARS HAVE A HANDLE WHERE YOU CAN ACCESS THE BACK SEAT,
-PULL ALL THE TAIL LIGHT WIRES OUT USING YOUR LEGS TO PRY THE WIRES
-PULL UP OR DOWN PUSH FORWARDS OR BACKWARDS ON A ROD LEVER
FOUND CONNECTED TO THE LATCH OF THE TRUNK
    - FEEL AROUND FOR TOOLS IN THE TRUNK OR OPEN UP THE SPARE TIRE
COMPARTMENT TO GET THE LONG SKINNY BAR, YOU CAN USE THAT TO
PRY OPEN A ROD LEVER AT THE LATCH OF THE TRUNK OR TO BREAK THE
PLASTIC TAIL LIGHT LENSES, AND TRY TO WAVE SOMETHING THROUGH
THE OPENING ALERTING OTHER CARS THAT YOU ARE IN DANGER.
    LOOK FOR A WAY OUT!

  2. If the perpetrator gets you alone in an isolated place like a room, a house,
a barn, a church, where there are no safe people around to help you

    DON'T PANIC,
EVERY SITUATION IS DIFFERENT AND EVERY PERPETRATOR IS DIFFERENT
STUDY THE PERPETRATOR HOW DOSE HE REACT TO YOUR PLEADING, OR
CRYING, WITHOUT GETTING HIM ANGRY, CALMLY TALK TO HIM, TELL HIM
    YOU WANT TO GO HOME,
    Plan
LOOK FOR A WAY OUT.- STUDY THE ROOM HOW YOU COULD GET OUT FAST,
HOW THE LOCK WORKS, WHAT OBJECT COULD YOU THROW THROUGH A
WINDOW, HOW YOU COULD START A FIRE TO GET OUT, AND STUDY THE
OUTDOORS FOR A GOOD PLACE TO HIDE IF YOU COULD GET OUT.
DOSE THE ROOM HAVE A PHONE? DIAL 911 OR 0 FOR THE OPERATOR
    -PRETEND TO HEAR NOISES
    Distract and escape
FIGHT! SCREAM FIRE! SCOOP EYES OUT, BITE, KICK, ATTACK FACE, JAB PEN IN EYE,
JAB PEN IN EAR, JAB PEN UP NOSE, THROW DIRT, ROCKS OR ANY OTHER OBJECTS
    AT PERPETRATOR'S FACE, THEN RUN!

THROW A LAMP OR ANYTHING THROUGH A WINDOW TO GET AWAY,
START A FIRE, PULL CURTAINS DOWN FROM WINDOWS, ACTIVATE A SMOKE
ALARM, PLUG A SINK AND TURN ON THE WATER TO FLOOD THE PLACE.
Can you safely get to a busy road?

CAN YOU GET ATTENTION FROM PASSING CARS BY WAVING YOUR HANDS OR
SOMETHING IN THE AIR! HAND SIGNAL PEOPLE TO CALL POLICE!

  3. If a perpetrator gets one alone in an isolated place like in the wilderness
    Distract and escape!
FIGHT! SCREAM FIRE! SCOOP EYES OUT, BITE, KICK, ATTACK FACE, JAB PEN IN EYE,
JAB PEN IN EAR, JAB PEN UP NOSE, THROW DIRT, ROCKS OR ANY OTHER OBJECTS
    AT PERPETRATOR'S FACE, THEN RUN!

    WHEN RUNNING
AWAY TRY STEPPING ON ROCKS SO HE WONT SEE YOUR FOOT PRINTS. TRY
NOT TO MAKE NOISE WHEN YOU RUN FIND A HIDING PLACE,
HIDE CLIMB A TREE, HIDE IN A STREAM, HIDE NEAR SOME ROCKS, BE VERY QUIET,
BE STILL, LISTEN FOR HIS FOOT STEPS, SLOWLY WITHOUT MAKING ANY NOISE
COVER YOUR ARMS, FACE, AND BODY WITH DIRT, DON'T MOVE, EVEN IF YOU
HEAR HIM NEAR BY DON'T MOVE, BREATH IN THROUGH YOUR NOSE AND OUT
THROUGH YOUR MOUTH. BE PATIENT WAIT FOR A LONG TIME, MAKE SURE HE'S
NOT QUIETLY LOOKING FOR YOU. IF YOUR WOUNDED AND BLEEDING PRESS ON
THE INJURY YOUR HAND OR CLOTHING TO HELP IT STOP BLEEDING. TRY NOT
TO CRY, YOU HAVE TO BE VERY QUIET AND WAIT UNTIL IT IS SAFE.
    When one is hiding
DO YOU KNOW IF THERE ARE HOUSES IN THE AREA?
DO YOU KNOW IF THERE IS A BUSY ROAD NEAR BY?
BE CAREFUL HE MAY STILL BE IN THE AREA LOOKING FOR YOU.
WHEN YOU FEEL SAFE LOOK FOR HELP, TAKING SOME ROCKS WITH YOU.
Can you safely get to a busy road?

CAN YOU GET ATTENTION FROM PASSING CARS BY WAVING YOUR HANDS OR
SOMETHING IN THE AIR! HAND SIGNAL PEOPLE TO CALL POLICE! YELL FIRE!

  4. What if one cannot fight and the perpetrator ties one up?
-IF HE PUTS TAPE ON YOUR MOUTH PUFF YOUR CHEEKS AND TUCK YOUR
LIPS IN YOUR MOUTH AND THEN USE THE SALIVA IN YOUR MOUTH TO WET
THE TAPE AND TRY TO CUT AN EDGE WITH YOUR TEETH
-IF HE'S TYING YOU AROUND YOUR WAIST TAKE A DEEP BREATH WITHOUT
HIM KNOWING IT TO BLOAT YOUR STOMACH
-IF HE TIES YOUR WRISTS TRY TO MAKE YOUR WRISTS BIGGER, SO THAT
YOU MIGHT BE ABLE TO WIGGLE OUT LATER, IF HE PUTS HANDCUFFS ON
YOU TRY TO MAKE YOUR HANDS BIGGER, AFTER THE HANDCUFFS ARE ON
TRY NOT TO STRUGGLE, RELAX YOUR ARMS SO THAT THEY ARE NOT
PULLING ON EACH OTHER BECAUSE PULLING TO HARD CAN MAKE
YOUR WRISTS SWELL AND ARE HARDER TO TAKE OFF,
WHEN THE OFFENDER IS NOT WATCHING
THEN TRY TO SLOWLY WIGGLE YOURSELF FREE. ONCE FREE
DON'T SHOW HIM YOU ARE FREE, WAIT FOR THE RIGHT MOMENT AND THEN
RUN AND GET OUT OF THERE AS FAST AS YOU CAN.

Some Prevention Suggestions:

  1. Try not to be alone with one person or child, it's safer to always be in a group.

  2. Don't' trust people period! Don't look at or pet strangers animals. Don't get
near anyone who wants to talk to you, don't get near strangers in cars or trucks.
If a stranger says they know you or your mom don't believe it! Strangers lie! If a
stranger wants to show you a surprise don't look, don't go near, don't talk to
strangers. Strangers sometimes dress up like nice people, so don't talk to anyone.
If a policeman, fireman, postman, woman or anyone wants to talk to you, don't
talk to them, they could be a stranger in disguise. Be careful even with people you
    do know.

  3. Even if you are hungry and thirsty don't accept food, candy, drinks, or water from
strangers and even from people you know, especially when you are alone with them.

  4. Always let someone like a parent, brother, sister, or friends, know where you are.
Try to organize your activities where you are always in a safe group of people.

  5. Try not to be alone, but if you have to be alone:
When alone at home it is wise to not to answer the door or phone, make sure
all doors and all windows are locked, have your parents and police phone
numbers always handy, have a plan think where you could hide, who's house
you could run to if you had to, who you could get help from in case of an
    emergency.

  6. If you have to walk alone carry a cell phone, or a fake cell phone, maze and rocks.
Don't take short cuts, don't walk through alleys, don't walk close to strangers,

  7. Get familiar with spare tire compartments and tools found in the trucks of cars,
and with car tail light wiring and bulbs, ask you mom or dad to show you.

  8. Practice writing descriptions about people you know like your friend is so
tall, weighs about so much, has what color of eyes, hair, that kind of stuff, and
then practice doing that with your parents, teachers and relatives.

  9. Practice wrestling with parents have them teach you how to defend yourself
    and take self defense courses.
